It's October, one of our favorite times at Paramount. Halloween is on way and so is our Halloween show! What shall we dance to this month? You'll have to come to the show to find out. BUT here is a sneek preview to maybe peek your interest...

Electric Light Orchestra - Evil Woman

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)
"Evil Woman" is a song written by lead vocalist Jeff Lynne and recorded by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). It was first released on the band's fifth album, 1975's Face the Music.

When released as a single in late 1975, the song became the band's first worldwide hit. According to Lynne this song was the quickest he had ever written, in thirty minutes, originally as 'filler' for the group's Face the Music album. The song placed in the top 10 on both sides of the Atlantic in early 1976. The song became a hit again in the UK in 1978 when it featured on The ELO EP. The lyric "There's a hole in my head where the rain comes in" in the song is a tribute to The Beatles' song "Fixing a Hole".

(from songfacts)
This song was recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich, Germany some time in early to mid 1975. Jeff Lynne wrote the song on a piano in the studio on the last days of recording, writing it very quickly. The band's recording for all of the other songs for the Face The Music album had been completed when Jeff needed another song. One morning, while the rest of the band was out, he sat at the piano and played the opening piano riff, which became the basis of the song. Later that same day, the rest of the band came in and recorded the backing track. The lyrics were written and recorded the next day at Musicland. The string and female choir parts were recorded (and possibly written) later at De Lane Lea Studios in Wembley, U.K.

During the instrumental break in the song, when the synthesizer plays, right before the chorus starts up the second time, if you play it backwards, you can actually hear the synthesizer sound that plays in another song by the Electric Light Orchestra: "Nightrider."

Kris Kristofferson - Sunday Morning Coming Down
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=men-059FGL0

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)

"Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" is a song written by Kris Kristofferson that was popularized in 1969 by Ray Stevens before becoming a number one hit for Johnny Cash.

(from songfacts)
Kristofferson was a captain in the Army and wanted to go to Vietnam, but that request was denied because he had been assigned a teaching position at the United States Military Academy in West Point. He never got to West Point because he fell in love with Nashville after spending time with writers such as Mel Tillis and Tom T. Hall. After shaking Johnny Cash's hand – while in uniform – Kristofferson said he was "mesmerized."
He became known as a singer and songwriter with a "country outlaw" reputation. Some of his best known hits include "Sunday Morning Coming Down," recorded by Johnny Cash, "Me And Bobby McGee," featured on Janis Joplin's Pearl album, and "Help Me Make it Through the Night," which earned Sammi Smith a Grammy for Best Country Music Female Performance and Kristofferson a Grammy for Best Country Song in 1972.
He didn't get along with his mother and his father wasn't home much, so a nanny named Juanita took care of him when he was young. Kristofferson stayed in touch with her throughout his life, and said she "probably saved my life."
Barbra Streisand selected Kristofferson for the role of John Norman Howard in the movie A Star is Born, for which he won a Golden Globe award for Best Actor. Streisand wanted Elvis Presley to play the role of Howard, but Colonel Tom Parker was angry that Streisand did not approach him first. He also insisted that Presley receive top billing over Streisand. Kristofferson appeared in several films after A Star is Born, including the critically acclaimed Lone Star and the colossal box office flop, Heaven's Gate.
Kristofferson is known for his left-of-center political views, which he attributes to his mother. He recalls his hometown as being discriminatory against Mexicans and when a Mexican World War II hero returned home from Europe, a parade was held in his honor. Kristofferson and his family were the only Anglos in attendance. He claims his political leanings contributed to a decline in his film and music career, claiming that he did things that made him "unmarketable," like "hanging around the Sandinistas," the left-wing Nicaraguan political party. Kristofferson's career also suffered because of his battles with drugs and alcohol.
Fellow country singer Rita Coolidge married Kristofferson in 1973. They collaborated on three albums in the 1970s, winning Grammy awards in 1974 for the single, "From the Bottle to the Bottom," and in 1976 for the song, "Lover Please." The couple went through a much-publicized divorce in 1980.

Desire Arts Theatre & Gallery

There is a new Second Life Performance Venue Grand Opening on Saturday, 26 August 2017, at 7:00 PM SL Time.  It is called "Desire Arts Theatre and Gallery" and is owned and managed by experienced Second Life Performers Lotta Difference Campbell-MacGregor and her partner and SL husband Pathmaker.

As an "Arts" theater (and gallery) Desire Arts will be a venue perfectly suited for SL Performers wishing to express themselves thru live performances, thru Dance, Art Exhibits, Performance Art as well as Dramatic Presentations.

Lotta and Path have owned and operated the theater known as "Paramount" - first as "Paramount Playhouse" 2012 - 1013, and as "Paramount Grand Theater" 2014 - Present.

For those familiar with the Night Players Theater, and the performances at Paramount called "Night Players" - Night Players is gone.  Desire Arts starts off as a totally new theater, totally separate from Paramount and with some new definitions of desired content.

Right up front please be aware that Desire Arts is NOT a "Porn Palace" nor is is a sex theater.  Lotta and Path both have Bachelor of Fine Arts Degrees (Plus many hours of work towards MFA degrees) and are very open-minded individuals.

Artists of various media (including performance art) are welcome to contact the Desire Arts ("DA") staff regarding presentations which go beyond the scope the SL "Mainstream Dance Community."  An important matter to consider is that at DA, there will be no censorship as to content although anything presented at the venue must be of a high quality regarding choreography and production value.

Also, Presentations of a controversial nature (including those involving sex, politics and/or religion) will be presented separately from the Dance Program.

DA is seeking performers who want to "push the limits" - who wish to do acts that may not please everyone.  You have an act that is not suitable for Paramount or other "mainstream venues" ?  Bring it to DA where you will very likely be welcomed with open arms.

For a sampling of some of what DA has to offer audiences - and performers, please check out the Grand Opening show on Saturday, August 26th at 7PM SLT.

Legends & Divas Sneek Peek!

Another show this Saturday of our Legends & Divas!

Janet Jackson - Escapade
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFX3gQHIroU

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)
"Escapade" is a song by American R&B/pop entertainer Janet Jackson, released as the third single from her fourth studio album Rhythm Nation 1814.

The song was released following Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" single and became the third of the historic seven top five singles released from the Rhythm Nation 1814 album. The song's music video takes place at an exotic carnival setting, also featuring Jackson's trademark intense choreography. The song and its video has influenced other songs and music videos from several artists, who have cited influence from its upbeat tempo and joyous feel.

"Escapade" won a BMI Pop Award for Most Played Song due to its frequent airplay and popularity among the general public, and was also performed by Jackson in her Japanese commercials for Japan Airlines. The song appears in Dance Central 2 as DLC. It has been included in each of Jackson's greatest hits albums Design of a Decade: 1986–1996 (1995), Number Ones (2009) and Icon: Number Ones (2010).

(from songfacts)
Jackson embarked on her very first concert tour - "The Rhythm Nation World Tour 1990" - the same week this song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Jimmy Jam remembered how the song came together: "While [Janet] was sitting in one room coming up with lyrics, I put it on the 24-track. We hooked the drum machine up. On my left hand I played the bass, on the right hand I played the chord. And it was just enough for her to sing to, which we do a lot. Because we like to let her sing to as minimum of a track as we can do, then fill in the track around her so that her part is the main part of the song. With 'Escapade,' she sang it and we kept saying we'll go back and redo the track... we never redid the track."

Legends and Divas Sneek Peek

We have a our latest show coming up this Saturday, Legends and Divas. Having a wide range of artists to choose from, just who do we give you for a sneek peek?!

Lady Gaga - Applause (Official)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pco91kroVgQ

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)
"Applause" is a song by American singer Lady Gaga from her third studio album, Artpop (2013). It was released as the album's lead single through Interscope Records on August 12, 2013. Written and produced by Gaga, DJ White Shadow, Dino Zisis and Nick Monson, additional songwriters included Martin Bresso, Nicolas Mercier, Julien Arias and William Grigahcine. "Applause" was inspired by the cheering of her fans, which kept her motivated during the months she toured with the Born This Way Ball in pain, before cancelling it due to a hip injury. It is an electropop and Eurodance song built around synthesizers and hi-NRG beats, with lyrics addressing how Gaga is dependent upon her fan's adoration and how she lives to perform.

The song received generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised its catchy chorus and favorably compared it to the material featured on Gaga's debut album, The Fame (2008). "Applause" achieved commercial success in a number of major music markets. In the United States, it peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Gaga's twelfth top-ten single. "Applause" has been certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

An accompanying music video directed by fashion photography duo Inez and Vinoodh was released on August 19, 2013, and broadcast on jumbotrons across Times Square. The video received positive reviews from critics, who saw it as a profile of Gaga herself and noted references to German Expressionist cinema and Andy Warhol. To promote the record, Gaga opened the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards with a performance of the song in which she represented her career through several on-stage wardrobe changes. She also performed it live on Good Morning America, Saturday Night Live, her residency show at Roseland Ballroom, and on her tour ArtRave: The Artpop Ball.

(from songfacts)
Gaga sings on the song of living for her fans' applause - the way they cheer and scream for her. "In my heart of hearts as I was writing, I knew that if I asked [the fans] to cheer for me before I sang or if I alluded to the fact that they would cheer for me before I sang," said Gaga to Women's Wear Daily. "They do that all the time for me; before I even open my mouth, the fans start cheering for me. And so this exclamation, 'Give me that thing that I love. Give it to me. I'm ready, start the music.' I'm from New York. I've worked since I was a five-year-old to be a performer. All my life. I deserve to be here. I'm ready."

The song's music video was directed by Dutch fashion photographers and past Gaga collaborators Inez & Vinoodh and was inspired by Gaga's passion for shapeshifting. We see the singer wearing an assortment of outfits including a clam shell bikini and a dress made of grass-green mosaic tiles. There are 12 costume changes in total and Gaga told Good Morning America: "When we were on set we did a lot of different looks and they're each very representative of different parts of me, as well as my obsession with transforming."

Gaga told The Guardian that rather than being a song for herself, "Applause" is as universal as any love song. "It's so interesting for people to say that the lyrics are all about me the performer," she said. "I want you to feel that way about yourself, that's why I wrote the song. I want you to wake up in the morning and say: 'I live for your applause, look at me today, I'm having a great day, I'm going to work and I'm going to have a fantastic lunch with my friends.' But it's not to be taken quite as seriously and as literally as people make it to be, which is why in the verses I'm sort of making fun of what people think about fame."

When she hosted Saturday Night Live on November 16, 2013, Gaga used this song in her monologue, turning the concept of cheap applause into a comedy bit. "Give it up for New York," she said, before explaining that there were two types of applause: the kind you earn and the kind you get by pandering to the audience. "I am a fan of both, and I wrote a song about," she said, launching into a brief performance of the song.

Just to give you all a little background on this show. I had started the Lighting The Way - Autism Awareness events here in SL back in 2010. Every year since I 1st started, I generally had one month long event, however, with some RL health issues, I had to dramatically cut back this year.

The reason I started Lighting The Way was because of my two children, whom both are on the autism spectrum. It was during this time I craved a means in which I could play an instrumental role in lighting the path from darkness for people who were diagnosed autistic.  My son suffers from the most severe form of autism while my daughter has the milder form known as Aspergers, so I decided to utilize SL as my platform for building awareness.

I started to have the dance community take part in the Lighting The Way event back in 2013 with a few acts here and there. Since most on the spectrum love all types of music, I thought this would be a wonderful way to help raise awareness. Over the years, I have watched Dancing For Autism grow into something that brings me to tears. The thought and dedication that each director and dancer brings to the stage, words can't even begin to explain.

The feedback has been such a positive one from not only through the dance community but from the audience members as well, whom some have been on the spectrum. To receive an IM from an audience member thanking me for having something here in SL to help raise awareness on what Autism is, they stated..... " having a place to go where I don't have to be judged and can be myself, makes me feel comfortable, I don't worry". Comments like that, is what drives me year after year to do this. It does HELP more than any of us can ever realize.

With every act, with every kind word, with every song choice, it does help.

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)
The album...
Yellow Submarine is the tenth studio album by English rock band the Beatles, released on 13 January 1969 in the United States and on 17 January 1969 in the United Kingdom. It was issued as the soundtrack to the animated film of the same name, which premiered in London in July 1968. The album contains six songs by the Beatles, including four new songs and the previously released "Yellow Submarine" (1966) and "All You Need Is Love" (1967). The remainder of the album was a re-recording of the film's orchestral soundtrack by the band's producer, George Martin.

The project was regarded as a contractual obligation by the Beatles, who were asked to supply four new songs for the film. Some songs were written and recorded specifically for the soundtrack, while others were unreleased tracks from other projects. The album was issued two months after the band's self-titled double LP (also known as the "White Album") and was therefore not viewed by the band as a significant release. Yellow Submarine has since been afforded a mixed reception from music critics, some of whom consider that it falls short of the high standard generally associated with the Beatles' work. It reached the top 5 in the UK and the US, and has been reissued on compact disc several times.

The film...
Yellow Submarine (also known as The Beatles: Yellow Submarine) is a 1968 British animated musical fantasy comedy film inspired by the music of the Beatles, directed by animation producer George Dunning, and produced by United Artists and King Features Syndicate. Initial press reports stated that the Beatles themselves would provide their own character voices; however, aside from composing and performing the songs, the real Beatles participated only in the closing scene of the film, while their cartoon counterparts were voiced by other actors.

The film received widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike, in contrary to some of the Beatles' previous film ventures. It has also been credited with bringing more interest in animation as a serious art form. Time commented that it "turned into a smash hit, delighting adolescents and esthetes alike".
