Newness

Well old news, new news, not horrible!

Good news is, we have pictures from our Saturday show, I just have to organize them like I like and put them for you all to see!

Bad news is, we are moving Paramount again. I know, already? Why? Well for the past few weeks, our sim has been griefed more than we'd like. Not being able to get someone from management to restart the sim like we'd want... anyway, we are moving once again. Thank goodness no shows going on until the new year! :)

Also we don't have time for the art gallery... so sadly we are closing that, but adding a pond! ;D

Dance into Christmas Sneek Peek

OUR CHRISTMAS is coming up shortly! Tomorrow infact!! YAY! So here is a short song to get stuck into your head :D

You know you want one for Christmas!

I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas by Gayla Peevey

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Dec9Jb_Ac4

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)
"I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" is a Christmas novelty song written by John Rox (1902–1957) and performed by Gayla Peevey (10 years old at the time) in 1953. The song peaked at number 24 on Billboard magazine's pop chart in December 1953.

Peevey was a child star (born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma), before her family moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma when she was five.[9] When released nationally by Columbia Records the song shot to the top of the charts, and the city zoo acquired a baby hippo named Matilda.

Peevey was filmed performing the song on The Ed Sullivan Show in October 1953, airing on November 15, 1953. A video of this performance is available on her website.

A popular legend holds that this 1953 hit had been recorded as a fundraiser to bring the city zoo a hippo; but in a 2007 radio interview with Detroit-based WNIC radio station, Peevey clarified that the song was not originally recorded as a fundraiser. Instead, a local promoter picked up on the popularity of the song and Peevey's local roots, and launched a campaign to present her with an actual hippopotamus on Christmas.

The campaign succeeded, and she was presented with an actual hippopotamus, which she donated to the city zoo. The hippopotamus lived for nearly 50 years.

Gayla Peevey later recorded as Jamie Horton, scoring the Billboard Hot 100-charter "My Little Marine" in 1960.

The Players are putting on a satirical play. December 3rd at 7pm slt at there new home. Cleo and the Czar is about Cleopatra and her many escapades of being a queen.

Cleopatra VII ruled ancient Egypt as co-regent for almost three decades. Well-educated and clever, Cleopatra could speak various languages and served as the dominant ruler. Her romantic liaisons and military alliances with the Roman leaders Julius Caesar and Mark Antony, as well as her supposed exotic beauty and powers of seduction, earned her an enduring place in history and popular myth.

Leonard Cohen Tribute Show

Come join us for an evening of classy but sassy entertainment as we the PARAMOUNT GRAND THEATRE, the Paramount Players dance for you November 26th at 7pm slt, in our new show, Celebration of Life - Leonard Cohen Tribute Show.

Leonard Norman Cohen, was a Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and novelist. His work explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships. Cohen was inducted into both the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Cohen pursued a career as a poet and novelist during the 1950s and early 1960s, and did not launch a music career until 1967, at the age of 33. His first album, Songs of Leonard Cohen (1967), was followed by three more albums of folk music: Songs from a Room (1969), Songs of Love and Hate (1971) and New Skin for the Old Ceremony (1974). His 1977 record Death of a Ladies' Man was a move away from Cohen's previous minimalist sound. In 1979 Cohen returned with the more traditional Recent Songs, which blended his acoustic style with jazz and Oriental and Mediterranean influences. "Hallelujah" was first released on Cohen's studio album Various Positions in 1984. I'm Your Man in 1988 marked Cohen's turn to synthesized productions and remains his most popular album. In 1992 Cohen released its follow-up, The Future, which had dark lyrics and references to political and social unrest.

Leonard Cohen Sneek Peek

Paramount Players are taking a break from Cleo and the Czar play to do a tribute to the life of Leonard Cohen. This coming Saturday at 7pm we'll be dancing to Leonard!

His songs may not to popular but once you connect to one it's hard to not listen to the test of his art.

Here is a sneek peek to tide you over until then....

Leonard Cohen - Seems so long ago, Nancy - 1969
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7vbH3Yzz0Q

Here are the lyrics for you to sing along

It seems so long ago,
Nancy was alone,
Looking ate the Late Late show
Through a semi-precious stone.
In the House of Honesty
Her father was on trial,
In the House of Mystery
There was no one at all,
There was no one at all.
It seems so long ago,
None of us were strong
Nancy wore green stockings
And she slept with everyone.
She never said she'd wait for us
Although she was alone,
I think she fell in love for us
In nineteen sixty one,
In nineteen sixty one.
It seems so long ago,
Nancy was alone,
A forty five beside her head,
An open telephone.
We told her she was beautiful,
We told her she was free
But none of us would meet her in
The House of Mystery,
The House of Mystery.
And now you look around you,
See her everywhere,
Many use her body,
Many comb her hair.
In the hollow of the night
When you are cold and numb
You hear her talking freely then,
She's happy that you've come,
She's happy that you've come.

NP Sneek Peek!

Night Players show is coming to Paramount tomorrow! Yay! It will be a full show of dancing and skin and well, if you've been a Night Players show, you know what happens!

Here is a sneek peek to tide you over until then....

Aerosmith - Love In An Elevator
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3Yrhv33Zb8

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)

"Love in an Elevator" is a song performed by American hard rock band Aerosmith, written by Steven Tyler and guitarist/backing vocalist Joe Perry. It was released in August 1989 as the lead single from their third album with Geffen Records, Pump, released in September (see 1989 in music). It peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number 1 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

The video for the song, considered by many to be a definitive music video for Aerosmith, starts off with the band walking up to a department store elevator, and an attractive woman (Brandi Brandt) says "2nd floor...hardware, children's wear, lady's lingerie. Oh, good morning Mr. Tyler, going down?" Steven Tyler enters the elevator and the song starts.

The video flashes back and forth between the band performing live and scenes from the department store. The scenes in the department store and elevator include Brad Whitford being hypnotized by fake department store models turning into real ones when he's not looking, Joey Kramer dressed up like a woman, Joe Perry and his wife (both topless) kissing in the elevator, Tyler kissing the female department store clerk, and Tom Hamilton playing his bass grooves, in addition to the odd performances of other random characters, including a butcher, a fat lady, midgets, the Tin Man and Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz, and a male model.

At the end of the song, all the band members gather around the microphone to sing "Love in an Elevator...lovin' it up when I'm going down". And then it flashes back to a scene in which the elevator doors close.

The video was directed by Marty Callner, who produced many of the band's Geffen-era music videos in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The woman with the male little person in the video is Dee Booher, better known as Queen Kong in the Los Angeles area. She also wrestled on TV show G.L.O.W. as Matilda the Hun.

(from songfacts)

This is a song about love, elevators, and the combination thereof. Lyrically, Aerosmith has some songs with a deeper meaning, but many of their songs have fun lyrics set to tracks that show off their musicianship.

They also have plenty of experiences to draw from that make great fodder for stories and songs. As Steven Tyler tells it, this one was inspired by one of his pre-sobriety days when he found himself in a hotel hot tub with a bevy of women. When they moved the party to his room, they piled into the hotel elevator wearing nothing but towels and bathrobes. One of the ladies decided to have some fun and push all the buttons in the elevator, which brought it down to the lobby. When one of the girls opened her robe to show Tyler her goods, the elevator doors opened, giving the crowded lobby a look.

Steven Tyler wrote this song with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry. Musically, it was a fusion of different ideas they came up with at a jam session - Buddy Miles was an influence.

Tyler came up with the lyrics, but was concerned that the title was too juvenile. Perry pointed out that they already had a song called "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" which worked out very well for them, so they went with "Love In An Elevator."

All five members of Aerosmith sing the last chorus a capella; in live performances, they all sing into the same microphone.

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)
Leon Bridges (born Todd Michael Bridges; July 13, 1989) is an American gospel and soul singer and songwriter from Fort Worth, Texas. He is best known for his song "Coming Home", which received regular airplay and was also a Top 10 Most Viral Track on Spotify. Bridges's debut album, which is also titled Coming Home, was released on June 23, 2015 on Columbia Records.

Bridges began writing and performing 1950s and '60s-style soul music that was described by Austin 360 as "a transmission straight from the heart."He began to attract followers and his break into the music industry has been attributed to meeting guitarist Austin Jenkins and Joshua Block of White Denim. It was Bridges's performance of "Coming Home" that caught the attention of the two. Bridges worked on his first few tracks with Jenkins and Block as producers. They recorded an album with vintage equipment, using local musicians affiliated with White Denim. Bridges released two demo songs on Soundcloud in late 2014. "Coming Home" received airplay from local radio stations including KKXT. It attracted the attention from a number of record labels with Bridges eventually signing with Columbia Records in December 2014.

Bridges began his first national tour in January 2015, playing shows in Texas as well as playing support for Sharon Van Etten in New York. His first official single, "Coming Home", was released on Columbia Records in February 2015. The song continued the success of the demo version and became a Top 10 Most Viral Track on Spotify the same month as its release. Bridges toured with Jenkins and Block until they resumed work with White Denim. He also played at the Sundance Film Festival and played at the SXSW festival in 2015.

His debut album was released in the summer of 2015 and has been referred to as a 2015 Album to Look Forward to From Texans by The New York Times. Bridges made the cover of Fort Worth, Texas magazine in May 2015 for not only his vocal accomplishments but also his distinctive retro style. "Coming Home" is featured in an Apple iPhone 6 commercial.Bridges made his first appearance in the UK as an artist in May when he sold out the London Village Underground. He then went on to announce four July dates, ending with a gig at Shepherd's Bush Empire on September 28.The album was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards.

Aside from his own shows, Bridges also supported Pharrell Williams at the newly renamed Apple Music Festival on the 26th September. While opening at the intimate Roundhouse, he was able to perform hits such as "River", "Better Man" and "Lisa Sawyer" from his debut album Coming Home.

Bridges also participated in Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' song "Kevin", which was released on the duo's second full-length album together.

Night Players sneek peek!

Good news, Night Players is BACK in action at Paramount theatre! We'll be doing the shows now all on Saturdays. We have a FULL SHOW too! YAY 8 acts as of now are willing to show you... what we do. Ha!

On to the sneek peek of the day! Seems newer songs in the world of today do not have much information about them yet, so here are some wiki inserts!

Selena Gomez - Me & My Girls
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lweyKrSscHs

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)
Revival is the second studio album by American singer Selena Gomez. It was released on October 9, 2015, by Interscope and Polydor Records. Gomez began planning the project in 2014, at which time she left her previous label Hollywood Records and subsequently joined Interscope and Polydor, and continued work into 2015.

The record was inspired by the work of a range of artists, especially Christina Aguilera's sophomore studio album Stripped (2002), and Gomez's trip to Mexico, where she defined the album's sound. Working with a handful of songwriters, Gomez co-wrote eleven out of the sixteen tracks that made the album's tracklists. The album reflects her journey since 2013, including the media scrutiny on her personal life. As executive producers, Gomez, Danny D, and Tim Blacksmith collaborated with producers including Hit-Boy, Rock Mafia, and Stargate to achieve her desired new sound. Their efforts resulted in a primarily a pop record, being the genre showcased in form of midtempo electropop and dance-pop, connected by a tropical beach sound and lyrics that discuss love and confidence.

Revival received generally positive reviews from contemporary music critics, who appreciated its overall production and Gomez's vocals. It also entered on several year-end list of best albums. The record debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 with first-week earnings of 117,000 units, of which 85,000 were pure album sales. In doing so, it became Gomez's second consecutive number-one album, after Stars Dance (2013). On February 2, 2016, the RIAA certified Revival Gold, denoting 500,000 album-equivalent units (including albums sales, streaming and track-equivalent units) sold in the United States.

With its singles "Good for You" (featuring rapper A$AP Rocky) and "Same Old Love" both reaching number five and "Hands to Myself" charting at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100, Revival is further distinguished as Gomez's first record to house multiple top 10 singles in the United States; all of which became her first three number-one singles on the Mainstream Top 40 chart. Gomez promoted the album with several televised performances and embarked on her Revival Tour in May 2016, which will visit North America, Asia, Oceania, Europe and South America.

Disco is a genre of dance music containing elements of funk, soul, pop, and salsa. It achieved popularity during the mid-1970s to the early 1980s. Disco can be seen as a reaction against both the domination of rock music and the stigmatization of dance music by the counterculture during this period.

The disco sound has soaring vocals over a steady "four-on-the-floor" beat, an eighth note (quaver) or 16th note (semi-quaver) hi-hat pattern with an open hi-hat on the off-beat, and a prominent, syncopated electric bass line. In most disco tracks, string sections, horns, electric piano, and electric rhythm guitars create a lush background sound.

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)
"The Hustle" is a disco song by songwriter/arranger Van McCoy and the Soul City Symphony. It went to number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Soul Singles charts during the summer of 1975. It also peaked at number 9 on the Australian Singles Chart (Kent Music Report) and number 3 in the UK. It would eventually sell over one million copies and is one of the most popular songs of the disco era. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance early in 1976 for songs recorded in 1975.

While in New York City to make an album, McCoy composed the song after his music partner, Charles Kipps, watched patrons do a dance known as "the Hustle" in the nightclub Adam's Apple. The sessions were done at New York's Media Sound studio with pianist McCoy, bassist Gordon Edwards, drummer Steve Gadd, keyboardist Richard Tee, guitarists Eric Gale and John Tropea, and orchestra leader Gene Orloff. Producer Hugo Peretti contracted piccolo player Philip Bodner to play the lead melody.

During the summer of 1975, "The Hustle" became a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Soul Singles charts. Billboard ranked it as the No. 21 song for 1975. It also peaked at number 9 on the Australian Singles Chart (Kent Music Report) and number 3 in the UK.

According to producers Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore, who owned the Avco record label that originally released "The Hustle", McCoy met with them shortly before his death in 1979 to discuss ideas for a new, longer version of the song, in order to appease Avco's UK and German affiliates who were clamoring for a 12" disco single release. The new version, clocking in at just under 6-and-a-half minutes, was assembled posthumously as a remix, using parts of the original recording plus new parts, including drum, Syndrum, and a "little" Moog synthesizer. It was credited to Van McCoy alone or with an unnamed orchestra, mixed by "The Mix Masters", identity unknown.

The Dance itself...
There was also a popular line dance known as The Continental Walk, which was danced to the eponymous record by Hank Ballard; subsequent versions were also recorded by Chubby Checker and Danny & The Juniors. In the Continental Walk dancers dance backwards, then forward, then to the right and then to the left. They jump forward and backward, and click their heels. They do some quick tap steps and then turn to the left to face a new wall. The Continental Walk was the first followed by the Bus Stop which had monthly variations. The Bus Stop was the best known and most frequently performed line dance in the discos of 1976 and 1977. This dance was also referred to as the "LA Bus Stop Hustle." A detailed description of the steps along with an instructional video of this hustle line dance is available here.

This line dance was a version of Merengue with steps to rotate the dance direction orientation to another wall. The most popular current version (1980–2008) is called "The Electric Slide".

The original NY mainstream Bus Stop and Hustle trend ended and freestyle took over when recording artists Chic released the song "Le Freak" in 1978. Everyone else in the country started in 1978 after Saturday Night Fever was released.

Country music is a genre of United States popular music that originated in the Southern United States in the 1920s.It takes its roots from the southeastern genre of United States such as folk music, Blues music, and Western music. Country music often consists of ballads and dance tunes with generally simple forms and harmonies accompanied by mostly string instruments such as banjos, electric and acoustic guitars, and fiddles as well as harmonicas. The term country music gained popularity in the 1940s in preference to the earlier term hillbilly music; it came to encompass Western music.

How the West Was Dance Sneeky Peeky Part 2

This song in particular is a rather upbeat fun one. One of our dancers that is not into country music chose it, so we are happy to see what she's comes up with!

"She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" by Kenny Chesney

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...

(from Wikipedia)

"She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" is a song written by Jim Collins and Paul Overstreet, and recorded by American country music artist Kenny Chesney. It was released in October 1999 as the third single from his album Everywhere We Go. The song peaked at number 11 in early 2000 and has been certified Gold by the RIAA.
(from songfacts)
Jim Collins and David Lee Murphy wrote this song about a couple riding a tractor on a date. Collins appears to have a thing for penning "tractor" songs having previously co-written Kenny Chesney's 1999 hit single "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy."

Aldean commented in publicity materials with a grin: "There's nothin' more romantic than a tractor. If you live in South Georgia, a Saturday night out on the tractor with your girl is probably not that far-fetched of what could be considered a good 'date night.' The song seems to be connecting already, so maybe tractors have always been romantic, and everybody just needed reminding."

This was Aldean's third #1 on the Country chart and his second successful chart-topper following "She's Country." The song was the first to spend four weeks at #1 since Brad Paisley's "Letter to Me" reigned for four weeks 19 months previously in February 2008.

The huge success of this song has caused a huge increase in attendance at Aldean's concerts. He commented to AOL's The Boot: "As an artist you look for a career-changing song and that was definitely one of those. Now we're seeing crowds of 8,000 to 9,000 where we were seeing 3,000 people. 'She's Country' changed a lot of things, but 'Tractor' really changed it for me. If someone had asked me which song on the album would have been that, I'd never have picked 'Big Green Tractor.' I loved the song and wanted it to be a single, but to have it do what it's done, I'd have never thought it. Apparently there are a bunch of people who like to get freaky on a tractor!"

David Lee Murphy, who had a successful solo career in the 1990s including the hits "Party Crowd" and "Dust on the Bottle," told The Boot the story of the song: "I live outside of Nashville. I spend a lot of time out on my farm and on my tractor. The night before [Jim and I] had gotten together to write, I was out bush-hogging. One of my favorite things to do is get out and bush-hog at night and play around with my tractor. I was out riding around one night, and I just got the idea for that song. I started singing the chorus in my head.

I was supposed to write with Jim the next day. I walked into his office and I said, "Hey man, do you feel like writing another tractor song?" He just busted out laughing and said, "It's been about eight years since 'She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy'... I think I'm through!" We sat down and wrote that song. When you write songs sometimes, you just have a feeling that "this is going to be a hit song." I had that feeling with 'Party Crowd,' and I had that feeling with 'Dust on the Bottle.' When we wrote 'Big Green Tractor,' it just felt like, "Man, this song feels really great. It's special and it's different." You just feel fortunate to be around when something like that happens. Songwriters, we just sit around there and wait for the ideas to come. Some days it doesn't happen, and some days it does. That was just one of those days that I was lucky enough to be there when that one came up."

The song was originally pitched to Jake Owen but he passed on it.
