Night Players sneek peek

Out Night Players show is just a little more than 24 hours away! Where ahs the month gone?! Some acts will be in the theme of Halloween. So here is a little sneek peek for one act!

If you are a fan of the movie Halloween and the theme song, you just might enjoy this version as well. This dancer always looks forward to watching this movie or at least some parts every year. The original first one, she finds the best. Might be a bit hard to find facts about the song so I'll find some about the movie! come to the Night Players theatre, Friday, October 30th at 7pm slt!

Here are some movie facts for you to enjoy...
(from Wikipedia)
Halloween is a 1978 American independent slasher film directed and scored by John Carpenter, co-written with producer Debra Hill, and starring Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis in her film debut. The film was the first installment in what has become the Halloween franchise. The plot is set in the fictional Midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois. On Halloween night in 1963, a six-year-old Michael Myers dressed in a clown costume murders his older sister by stabbing her with a kitchen knife. Fifteen years later, Michael Myers, age 21, escapes from a psychiatric hospital, returns home, and stalks Laurie Strode and her friends. Michael's psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis suspects Michael's intentions, and follows him to Haddonfield to try to prevent him from killing.

Halloween was produced on a budget of $300,000 and grossed $47 million at the box office in the United States, and $70 million worldwide, equivalent to $250 million as of 2014, becoming one of the most profitable independent films. Many critics credit the film as the first in a long line of slasher films inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960). Halloween had many imitators and originated several clichés found in low-budget horror films of the 1980s and 1990s. Unlike many of its imitators, Halloween contains little graphic violence and gore. In 2006, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Some critics have suggested that Halloween may encourage sadism and misogyny by audiences identifying with its villain. Other critics have suggested the film is a social critique of the immorality of youth and teenagers in 1970s America, with many of Myers' victims being sexually promiscuous substance abusers, while the lone heroine is depicted as innocent and pure, hence her survival. Nevertheless, Carpenter dismisses such analyses. Several of Halloween‍ 's techniques and plot elements, although not founded in this film, have nonetheless become standard slasher movie tropes. Halloween spawned seven sequels and was rebooted by Rob Zombie in 2007. The first sequel to the original movie, Halloween II was released in 1981, three years after its predecessor.

Frightfully Delightful sneek peek

Our Halloween show is fast approaching and it's time to give you all readers a sneek peek into what a couple is dancing to on stage Saturday.  Yup this Saturday, we have two dancers, dancing to...  Sonny and Cher's, I Got You Babe. Come to see this... adorable... frightening... scarey... ?... couple Saturday, October 31st at 7pm slt! HALLOWEEN! YAY HALLOWEEN!

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...
(from Wikipedia)
"I Got You Babe" is a 1965 song written by Sonny Bono, the first single from the first album, Look at Us, of the American pop music duo Sonny & Cher. In August of that year the single spent three weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States where it sold more than 1 million copies and was certified Gold. It also reached #1 in the United Kingdom and Canada.

In 2011, the song was named as one of the greatest duets of all times by both Billboard and Rolling Stone magazine. It was also listed at #444 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time in 2004.

(from songfacts)
Sonny Bono was an up-and-coming record producer when he got Cher a job with Phil Spector as a session singer. They started dating and moved in to their manager's house. Bono would write songs on a piano in the garage. He came up with this tune and wrote the lyrics on a piece of cardboard. Cher didn't like it at first, but Sonny changed the key in the bridge to fit her voice and she loved it.
Ahmet Ertegun was their boss at Atco Records. He didn't think much of this song, so he put it on the B-side of "It's Gonna Rain." Los Angeles radio station KHJ started playing "I Got You Babe" after Bono brought them a copy and it became a huge hit.

This wasn't an anti-war song, but it went over well with the Hippie crowd because it stuck up for guys with long hair when Cher sang, "Let them say your hair's too long, I don't care, with you I can't go wrong."

In 1985, UB40 covered this with Chrissie Hynde doing the female vocals. Their version hit #1 in the UK and #28 in the US. Sonny & Cher's original version was the first record UB40's Ali Campbell ever owned.

Need a dance venue?

If you are a dancer and want a place to express yourself, try the Night Players Theatre located on the Paramount Grand grounds.

Night Players was built for those dancers that want to do more than dance, maybe put on a play or read poetry. Some one who wants to tell jokes or just plain dance naked on stage. Yes, Night Players shows do have nudity and sex on stage, tastefully, not porn. We are not a strip club, man’s club - that’s not what Night Players was built for.

Night Players will have some acts that are similar to what we do at Paramount - but it will also feature acts that are more - Avant Grade - acts that stretch our creative wings - - push our boundaries.

We have shows twice a month, sometimes three. Second Tuesday of the month at 6pm slt and the last Friday of the month at 8pm slt.

If YOU are a dancer or know of a dancer that may want to dance at Night Players Theatre, please contact Pathmaker Resident and/or Lotta Difference by notecard. Or drop by the theatre and drop off the notecard in the mailbox!

Buried Treasures Sneek Peek Part 2

Buried Treasures is a dancer's choice show, not about pirates.... but we have got a wide variety of songs this month!  One more show this Saturday the 17th, BUT have no fear, we come back for HALLOWEEN!

Here is another sneek peek for you all to enjoy. If you haven't seen the show, come on by for some topless girls! *laughs*... who would put such a thing on stage? Paramount of course... and well our owner, Path. He knows you won't mind a bit.

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...
(from Wikipedia)
"Self Control" is a song by American singer Laura Branigan, released as the lead single from her 1984 third studio album of the same name. Written by Giancarlo Bigazzi, Steve Piccolo and Italian singer Raf, the song was first recorded by Raf in 1984, Branigan recorded the same song later that year as well for her third studio album. Branigan's version first hit no. 1 in Germany on June 15, 1984. Raf's version first hit no. 1 in Italy on June 23, 1984. Both versions of the song were popular across Europe during much of the summer of 1984 and were the most successful single of the year in Switzerland. Branigan's version peaked at no. 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and also went to no. 2 on the dance chart.

The song has become one of the defining songs of the 1980s, with a number of remakes recorded each year. Notable covers include Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin in 1993, a hit dance remake by Branigan in 2004 and two 2006 versions that hit the Top 5 in various European enclaves, by Danish dance group Infernal and Spanish singer Soraya Arnelas.

The song narrates the singer's slip into the world of nightlife, the allure of which has it "livin' only for the night" and deeming itself to "live among the creatures of the night". Rather than actually invoking more self-control, the singer repeatedly declares to a phantom protagonist that "you take my self, you take my self-control".

(from songfacts)
This song was first released in 1983 by the Italian composer and singer Raf (Raffaele Riefoli), who wrote it with Giancarlo Bigazzi and Steve Piccolo. His version was a low tempo ballad with Disco-Techno-Pop features, and was an early use of synthesizers.

In 2006, the Spanish singer Soraya Arnelas released a version in her album Ochenta's (Eighty's). Also in 2006, the Danish dance group Infernal recorded this. (thanks, joan - Alcarras, Spain, for above 2)

Buried Treasure Sneek Peek

Buried Treasures is a dancer's choice show, not about pirates.... but we have got a wide variety of songs this month! Only two shows on the 10th and 17th, BUT have no fear, we come back for HALLOWEEN! YAY HALLOWEEN!

It's never too late for a sneeky peek!! We have a few new dancers to show off this month. They have selected a song from Maroon 5. So time for a little sneek peek!

Here are some song facts for you to enjoy...
(from Wikipedia)
Shortly after its release, "Maps" quickly reached number one on the Billboard Twitter Real Time Trending 140 chart, eventually staying within the upper ranks for several hours. The song also logged close to 1,800 first-day spins on radio which, according to the Nielsen BDS, would amount to a one-day audience impression of seventeen million. It has since peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100. It reached its million sales mark in August 2014[8] and had sold 1.6 million copies by the year's end.

The single debuted at number two on the UK Singles Chart in late August 2014.

As "Maps" topped the eight biggest music charts in South Korea, Maroon 5 became the first foreign artist to top several charts at the same time in Korean music history.

(from songfacts)
The song finds Levine singing about retaining hope for a relationship despite his girl abandoning him when he was going through a tough time.

The song's music video was directed by Peter Berg, who is best known for helming the films Friday Night Lights and Hancock as well as his acting role on the TV series Chicago Hope. He also previously directed Maroon 5's visual for "One More Night."

The clip follows a backwards narrative format, as it recounts the death of Adam Levine's girlfriend after getting hit by a car in Los Angeles. The storyline is inspired by the 2000 film Memento.
The song was brought in by Tedder and Blanco. Guitarist James Valentine told Billboard magazine it was, "just sort of workshopped" into its eventual form. "It really has those elements of The Police that have always been a huge, huge influence on us," he said. "We're usually trying to do stuff that sounds contemporary but is still classic. I mean, everybody says that. That's what they're always going for. I think that song sort of achieves that, at least in my mind."

New Video

A Second Life singer, Zeze, asked for some help to do a video at Paramount. Of course Path and I said of course. Some of the dancers were involved as well! Now this video isn't for everyone, it has a sex scene, but done nicely. Zeze did the singing and the video herself. Have a look!
